Nishat Ahmed, RP (Qualifying)

My name is Nishat Ahmed; I am a Bangladeshi Canadian born and raised in Canada. I am a registered psychotherapist (qualifying). I have a BA in development psychology and a postgraduate certificate in addictions and mental health. I have just recently finished my master's degree in counselling psychology. The reason why I pursue mental health is deeply rooted in my advocacy for South Asian mental health. Recognizing the prevalent stigma within South Asian culture surrounding seeking mental health support, I am committed to challenging these perceptions and fostering a more accepting and understanding environment. It is my sincere belief that by advocating for and promoting mental health awareness and resources tailored to the South Asian community, we can effectively combat stigma and encourage individuals to seek the help they need without fear or judgment.

Mental health is as crucial as physical well-being. I embody empathy, compassion, and a learning mindset as an advocate. I prioritize cultural sensitivity and understanding the stigma and unique challenges invisible minorities may experience in seeking mental health support.I am deeply committed to social justice and mental health equity. Collaboration with communities, professionals, and advocates is vital for positive change. My modalities are cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused brief counselling approaches. I can conduct sessions in English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. If you believe that I could be a suitable match for your needs, I encourage you to embark on your mental health journey by taking a proactive step forward. Please consider allowing me to assist you in achieving your goals along this path.
